Cultural Identity - 1374 Words

It is an interesting experience for me to face who I am when so much has happen within my life. Being a proud, 49-year-old, white man has not been easy. Everyone goes through hard times. However, I grew up in Port Orchard, WA with my family and friend – all of which were white. The early parts of my life occurred in a racially homogenous culture and impacted several aspects of my identity. My maternal grandparents were from Italy and my paternal grandparents were from Germany. I do remember seeing my great grandparents. My maternal grandfather was distinctly Italian with his rich olive skin color and my maternal grandmother was very religious – requiring my brothers and me to attend Catholic Sunday mass. I have worked hard and created my social status yet I know there is so much inequality in the United States and within the world. Poverty and race have plagued our county for hundreds of years. My degrees in Anthropology and Sociology provided me with an understanding about culture, diversity, and social status. Education provided me a new understanding about different races and cultures within the world. The foundation within our society is bias and it manufactures and shapes our thinking to reject other cultural values and norms. I am socialized to obtain wealth and think only of my needs and wants. The Doctrine Of God What Is The Theology Of This Passage

Theology: What is the theology of this passage? The theology in this passage is so rich. This passage is not just a simple prayer or a speech but the prayer is filled with theological perspective. First, Hezekiah says × Ã– ·Ã— ªÃ– ¸Ã– ¼Ã—”Ö ¾Ã—”Ö ¤Ã—•Ö ¼Ã— ×”Ö ¸Ã– ½Ã— Ã– ±Ã—Å"Ö ¹Ã—”Ö ´Ã—™× Ã–â„¢ ×Å"Ö °Ã—‘Ö ·Ã—“Ö °Ã– ¼Ã—šÖ ¸Ã–”. This phrase emphasizes on the doctrine of God. In the doctrine of God, there is an emphasis that God is the only God. And in the doctrine of God, we believe in the Triune God. This is an emphasis to one true God. There is no implication of the triune God, but the claim for monotheistic God is surely present that there is no other God but one God as in Deut 6. Second, the phrase ×Å"Ö °Ã—›Ö ¹Ã–â€"×Å" מÖ ·Ã—žÖ °Ã—Å"Ö °Ã—›Ö ¹Ã– £Ã—•× ª ×”Ö ¸Ã— Ã– ¸Ã–‘× ¨Ã– ¶Ã— ¥ emphasis that â€Å"God is active in other nations and also in the world. God is a God who works to fulfill his purposes. This may be referred to as God’s providence which is the continuing work of God. God will continue to work until the culmination of history. God is not a deistic God who has left the world and does not intervene in the world as some claims that he is but God is who he is involved with humanity and works in the midst of humanity. Third, the phrase × Ã– ·Ã— ªÃ– ¸Ã– ¼Ã– £Ã—” × ¢Ã– ¸Ã— ©Ã– ´Ã—‚Ö”×™× ªÃ– ¸ × Ã– ¶Ã— ªÃ– ¾Ã—”Ö ·Ã— ©Ã– ¸Ã– ¼Ã— Ã—žÖ ·Ã–â€"×™Ö ´Ã— וÖ °Ã— Ã– ¶Ã— ªÃ– ¾Ã—”Ö ¸Ã— Ã– ¸Ã– ½Ã— ¨Ã– ¶Ã— ¥ emphasizes on the God the nature of God, as the Creator God. Working With and Developing Communities

Question: Describe about the Article for Working With and Developing Communities. Answer: Brief Summary of the Project: Help Her is a community developmental project. This project is designed in such a way that the members of this project can help the Indigenous women, who are victims with disabilities like, sexual assault and domestic violence. Since many years, due to undeveloped traditional culture and lack of education, the women in this indigenous community are facing sexual assault and domestic violence (Green Haines, 2015). So, the main target of the domestic violence and sexual assault agencies is to be more responsible towards the needs of these women. It can be achieved through improving easy accessibility with the members of the plan and increasing knowledge among the community people. The aim is to provide the appropriate services to the more disabled women. Aim(s) of the Project: The aims of this project can be set after reviewing the Domestic Violence Program Survey in the Indigenous community over five years. This survey provides the data related to accessibility of domestic violence programs and facilities for disabled women and awareness of the necessities, among disabled women. This survey has guided the strategies and objectives of this project plan (Fabricius et al., 2013). This project plan has modified in such a way that it can fetch a great opportunity that can fund the project. The objectives are stated below: Training will be provided on violence and disability to 75% of volunteers and 90% of targeted domestic violence and sexual assault service provider staff. Environmental accessibility will be increased by four domestic violence and sexual assault agency offices and two shelters in that community. Different communication channels like, intake, hotline, printed materials and agency information will be established to increase the accessibility among disabled women in two shelters and four agency offices. The outreach will be increased to identify the women with disabilities, who are the victim of domestic violence and sexual assault in the community, Help Her project will also provide the legal support to the victim women. The project members will also emphasise on the victim women to provide them with certain skills so that they can stand for themselves in the future. The community development workers have to focus on the male members and the elderly people to get help in this project. Why this Project is needed: Domestic violence and sexual assault are burden on many areas of the social system and it effects the nation development dramatically yet quietly. It also influence the fortune of the nation in terms of general progress, lost labour, health care, law enforcement in development. These issues are not only restricted to the present generation, but also it reverberates through the community and family into the future. The recent study shows that domestic violence and sexual assault are more frequent in an indigenous community then a white community. These issues are appearing in this community due to many reasons like, oppression, violent family environment, unemployment, financial problems, poor health, lack of education and much more (Hart, 2013). This will also lead to child abuse and child adolescence. The victims are not able to protest due to lack of understanding, fear, stigma, shame, lack of services, etc. A developmental project is very much needed to address these issues. These kinds of project will develop the confidence among the victims to fight against any circumstances. Many organisations can not show the effort to lower down these issues. But through this project, those organisations, especially government organizations take the initiatives. The victims not only get the proper training to deal with the problems but also they can communicate with each other and share their problems through this program. The victims get all type of supports through the project ct. They can empowered themselves through connecting to various cultures and training different skills for the future. The developmental project not only helps those victims but also it involves various educated people in this team. Different research team, government team, local people come together to make the project successful. Community Work Approach or Model: The main tasks in this project are to help the disabled women through changes, accessibility assessment, coalition building and training. This plan can be achieved in three approaches. They are stated below: In the first approach, the volunteers and the staff members have to be associated with the Indigenous community to gain skills and knowledge about the disabled women. The members have to communicate in such away so that the women will feel comfortable to share their thoughts. The project coordinator mentors the six hours training (Rhee et al., 2015). Training needs funding for training materials, one support staff and the time of the project coordinator. In the second approach, the domestic violence and sexual assault agencies and the shelters have to establish in such a way the disabled women can access them easily. To access the side audits a cross disability team can be made up of four women who use the accessibility check list. The project coordinator will create a report based on the auditing report and will guide the agencies to develop an action plan. The primary audit and other related reports and action plans need many months to successful implementation (Munn-Giddings Winter, 2013). This plan needs funding for materials and travels, project coordinator, cross-disability team of four members. In the third approach, the communication and information will help to identify the disabled women. Then these women will be sent to domestic violence and sexual assault shelter and agencies. Project staff consists of support staff and project coordinator will develop primary contacts and then will arrange different meetings and gatherings during the whole project completion (Kelly, 2016). This approach includes funding for incidentals and materials, and staffs to arrange the meeting. Certain changes in the community: The changes will be made into the policies of those disabled women to use them for their personal settings within the service settings. The physical environments will be modified within the service setting, like, accessible bathrooms, wider doorways, ramped entrances etc. This will help to increase the utilization. Different mode of communications and printed materials will be provided to the women so that they can ask for the help in any situation. Proper victim services will be provided to the disables women.unity disability agencies and collaborative relationships between domestic violence and sexual assault programs will be strengthened. Project Objectives, Strategies and Activities: Objectives: The main vision of this project is to improve the help service for the disabled women who had experienced sexual assault or domestic violence. The vision statement is Help Her. The essential what of this project is to upgrade the referral, identification and access to sexual assault and domestic violence for disable Indigenous women in an underserved group through certain trainings and increasing awareness (Groves Hinton, 2013). The essential why of this project is the disabled women are more prone to be victims of sexual assault and domestic violence and less prone to get help. Strategies: Before developing strategies as a part of process for the project, the following targets will be highlighted. The project will be targeted towards the organisational level. The project will be targeted to the organizations, staff providing services, and domestic violence or sexual assault agencies and shelters that can refer the disabled women for proper services. This project will be also targeted towards environmental factors and personal factors. Environmental factors include policies, communication access, and physical access to domestic violence shelters that affect access. Personal factors include the staffs beliefs and knowledge about the necessity of women with disabilities. The following strategies will represent the accomplishment of each of the objectives. They correlate to the stated aims and represent the overall mission of the project. The strategies fit into the available opportunities and resources (Schulenkorf, 2012). Strategy 1: The community will be divided into equal parts. In those parts, six hours of training on violence and disability will be conducted with the volunteers and staff members from domestic violence and sexual assault service agencies. Strategy 2: Accessibility audits of domestic violence and sexual assault service agency sites will be conducted. The summary report will be developed from these audits and then the recommendations will be made according to the report. This will help each agency to develop an action plan. Strategy 3: Easily accessible communication channels like hotlines, print materials etc and information will be made. Then summary reports will be developed based on that and the recommendations will be made according to the report. This will help each agency to develop an action plan. Strategy 4: Meetings and social gathering will be held with the community disability agencies and sexually assault or domestic violence service staffs. This will modify the protocols of identifying disable women and referring them to victim help services. Activities: The project planning group will start with the existing work force with a focus on improving the health condition of the disabled women in that community. The leaders of that work force will be associated with the agencies that have brought expertises in disability issues, clinical research, practice, domestic violence and public health during this planning process. To do the project more specifically, the university based research centre will be called to help in this project (Phillips Pittman, 2014). They will bring the skills related to violence, epidemiology and will assist in developing the evaluation plan. The members will partner with the state coalitions to bring their expertises related to the overall problems of sexual assault services and domestic violence. They will contribute their big thoughts in services after knowing the facts towards the community. Every targeted shelter and agency will bring its unique expertise and perspective to help the women directly that has e xperienced sexual assault and domestic violence. Finally, the leaders of this project will bring the experts related to quality of life for people with accessibility, disability and the connection between disability and violence. Evaluation: The project plan is appeared to be transparent and complete. It shows the reflection through emerged opportunities and present work for replication and expansion in the future. The project will be evaluated under different criteria, like, relevance, effectiveness, efficiency, impact, sustainability and success. In first criteria, how much the aims of this project are relevant to the policies and priorities of the donor, recipient and target group will be evaluated. In this project, the aims are relevant to the priorities of the project. In effectiveness, the measurement of attending the goals of the project will be evaluated. The Help Her project is much effective in that way. Efficiency is measured through quantitative and qualitative outputs as compared to the inputs (Goodwin Young, 2013). In this project the victims will get various kinds of trainings, skills, supports as outputs without investing anything. So, the project fulfils the efficiency. The influence of any project is d escribed through its impact. This project has great impact in the society. The sexual assault and domestic violence are major issues in the society. The society will be influenced to a greater extent through conducting this type of project. Sustainability is associated with the beneficial outcomes of the project after its completion. To evaluate this project under sustainability, it can be said that it will be sustainable till certain extent. Success of a project will be measured with the results (Gilberthorpe, 2013). Overall, this project has a huge success. But it is difficult to say the continuation of its success in the future. Above all, during dealing the issues, this project plan has simple flexibility to fit the crisis operation mode of the agencies and allow the changes to appear in the crisis time. Budget: The budget of the project is defined as detailed estimation of all costs, which are required to complete the project. This budget will be drawn with much more detaining than the high level budget which would be developed in the initial stage of the project planning. This budget will be made based on top-down budgeting approach. This decision will be made by the seniors of the team, like project coordinator, the leader of the domestic violence and sexual assault agencies, local government leaders. This management team will estimate an amount as the cost of the project (Stewart Wild, 2015). Then that amount will be distributed between the project plans. The advantage of this budget plan is that the members will focus on completing the project within the allocated budget. There are two types of costs that concern the project coordinator while creating the budget. These two types of costs are direct costs and indirect costs. In direct cost, the cost will be dedicated to the project and charge will be fixed on the item basis. Examples are: volunteers, consultation fees, training fees, raw materials, licence fees, travelling cost etc. In Indirect costs more than one project will be benefited and a proportion of one project will be charged. These indirect costs are project insurance, general administration, project equipment, project space, telephone charges etc. Potential Funding Sources: Potential funding can be derived from various sources. The main sources are government grants, debt and equity. These alternative financing sources crucial implications on cash flow, overall cost of a project, ultimate claims and liability to project assets and income. Equity is referred to the funding invested by project coordinator. This funding can be provided by internally generated cash, third party investors, government and project coordinator (Kaneene et al., 2013). Equity provides need a return target that is much higher than the interest rate of debt funding. This will compensate the risks taken by project coordinator, as they have claim to assets and income of the project. Debt refers to the funding which will be borrowed from any financial institutions and banks. It has fixed rate of interest and fixed maturity which will be paid on principal. Lenders of the debt funding have the major claim on assets and income of the project. Some examples of debt funding are debt instru ments, bonds, subordinate loans, bridge finance, commercial loan etc. Apart from these two types of funding, the families, private organisations, clubs of the community also can help through funding. Project Timeline: The duration of the project Help Her is one year. The project will be divided into different parts. According to that the time management will be done. Identification of the women who faced sexually assault and domestic violence, will take three to four months. Communicating with them and making them, comfortable will take two to three months (Banks et al., 2013). Different types of training, skills will be provided to them. It will take four to five months. Then these victims will be kept under observation for one month. Though this project will be completed within one hour, but the members can reach the project team at any point of their needs. Limitations and Weaknesses of the Project: Limitation: This Help Her project is planned by nongovernmental organisation. So funding is the major limitation here. This project needs lot of costs to implement different ideas, skills, and trainings. But the funding is limited (Council, 2012). Second limitation is culture. The indigenous community is culturally restricted. It is not easy to mix up with the victims of the community. Due to different factors like, fear, shyness, the women of this community can not open themselves easily. The third limitation is time. Every project has a limited time period. The project will be granted in the condition to complete it with in a fixed time. In this project the goal is very difficult to achieve with in a time period. Weakness: The major weakness of this project is successful completion of the project. The goal of the project is to help the disabled women who faced sexual assault and family violence. These are such sensitive issues which are not described by family very often. After showing responses also, it is very difficult to estimate their implementation of the plan in the future (Steinzor et al., 2013). These violence issues again may arise after the completion of the project. This project can not compensate this weakness. This project involves lot of other members like volunteers, agents. So there is a high chance of corruption in the work and finance. References: Banks, S., Butcher, H., Orton, A., Robertson, J. (Eds.). Mugged by Andrew Payne Essays

Mugged by Andrew Payne Essays Mugged by Andrew Payne Essay Mugged by Andrew Payne Essay Essay Topic: Literature I performed in Mugged by Andrew Payne. I played the character of Taylor who was a deprived boy who has turned into a bully because of the people that he is around. Mugged is a play about six teenagers that are affected by the things around them, two are bullies, two are boys who are good friends that try to act cool and the two girls go along with the bullies. The teenagers are scared of the muggers and this ends up in one of the six being stabbed. In my essay I am going to study the plays of mugged and Blood Brothers and also Billy Elliot. My character of Taylor is a street wise teenager who is one of the school bullies. He victimises people who are quieter and less street wise than him. He is scared of some individuals across the park that they all fear and see as muggers but intimidates those less powerful than him and makes it look like he is not scared when he secretly is. I played the character of Taylor using some techniques such as walking in the way that a teenage boy would walk and also raising the tone of my voice to make me seem a lot more superior and also talking louder than I normally would. I tried to base that character of Taylor like the character of Tony Elliot, Billys older brother. The actor who played Tony showed his power and authority by raising his voice and he seemed like the type of person who would break the rules but he was very loyal to the miners on strike by not caving in because he needed the money he continued with his work mates. Although he was over powering when he told Billy to dance on the table he was trying to show compassion that he is only a little boy and should not go to ballet school. I tied to play Taylor as very headstrong but towards the end he was a bit lost in whom he was and what he was doing there and I tried to show that he also had a compassionate side. Playing the part of Taylor in mugged helped me to understand how a person like this would relate to the settings around him and also the other characters on the stage. The part of Taylor is a bit like the character of Sammy Johnstone in Blood Brothers because even know they are not the main character in the play they are still a character that has a lot of impact on the other characters and of the outcome at the end of the production. The characters of Sammy, Tony and Taylor have an outcome on the productions that I have used above because they cause life changing situation and in the plays Blood Brothers and Mugged someone ends up dying and Tony changes the decisions that are made but does not affect the play as much. The set of mugged is very simple compared to the sets of Blood Brothers and Billy Elliot. The set of Billy Elliot is the main background of the village miners hall and the bedroom and house was brought in by hydraulics under the stage and other things are brought in by the cast and crew. In Blood brothers the main setting in the first act is the old council buildings on the stage right and on the stage left a posh middle class house. In the second act it changes to some better presented council houses again the other parts of the stage are brought in by the cast and crew. The setting of Mugged was very simple because we performed it in our school so we had two park benches and a bin in between the two benches and that was it so that the set did not distract the audience form the performers. Also this is all that we needed for our play to make it look realistic. Our costumes were very simple me, Sian who played Leon, Allanah who played Marky and Kerry who played Dig wore jogging bottoms and a zip up hoddy to look like the style of people who were trying to be. Penny who played Mel and Georgina who played Soph wore there school skirts and a coat to look like slutty girls. In Billy Elliot each character had more than one costume because the play was over a few months the only person who wore the same costume was Mrs Elliot because she only was on a few times and she was dead so she did not change. Also in Blood Brothers they were a few different costumes because they are playing people over 10 years apart so they have different costumes to show the differences in age and also how they have grown up. Most productions on the West end and in most theatres are different to ours because they have people making the costumes and doing the makeup but because we only did it in school we did not have to do much to make it look good because people do not expect it to look good because it is only armature dramatics so we would not have very good costumes and also we would not have a very complex set. The theme of Mugged is mainly Friendship and who to make friends with and how friends act towards each other. Our play is also about peer pressure which ties in with the plot of both Blood Brothers and Billy Elliot because in both of these plays there is a lot of peer pressure. In Billy Elliot there is peer pressure because the miners are pressurised to stay on strike but Billys dad decided that he would break it for his son to go to ballet school. And in Blood brothers Sammy and his gang pressured Mickey. Linda and Eddie into things that they dont want to do and end up in trouble.

Question In July 2012, in exercising its powers under the EU Markets Essay

Question In July 2012, in exercising its powers under the EU Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (MiFID), UK Financial Se - Essay Example The market would therefore have been a highly competitive one with fewer shares to be traded among several shareholders. The case of survival of the fittest would have therefore arisen. In their bid to acquire London Metal Exchange Ltd, Honk Kong Exchange Investment was mandated to satisfy the provisions of the scheme of arrangement under Part 26 Companies Act 2006, which addresses the issue of legislation to loans and debt. This procedure was necessitated for a number of legal reasons and interpretations. Commonly, it is noted that the need of scheme of arrangement arises for companies such as Hong Kong Exchange Investment to make compromise with its key stakeholders on issues regarding solvent company’s reconstruction. ... cy and solvency Act4, it is very important to stress the fact that the scheme of arrangement is not in place to conceptualize a company’s scheme to become insolvent. With this said, the analysis can well continue on the provisions of the scheme of arrangement involved in the case of Hong Kong Exchange Investment as it would now be known that the scheme of arrangement was entered only as a cost shedding strategy and not as a means of announcing the company’s likelihood to become insolvent. Outcome and implications of the court approval for stakeholders Even though back in July 2012 the United Kingdom Financial Services Authority had exercised its powers under the European Union Markets in Financial Instruments Directive under the 2004/39/EC of the Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (MiFID) to approve Hong Kong Exchange Investment’s acquisition of London Metal Exchange Ltd, the process was somewhat put in a limbo as a court petition was undertaken for the c ourt to sanction the Scheme that had been started and to give a legislative confirmation to the related capital reduction5. This court petition was in reaction to the approved purchasing capital of ?1.39 billion that had been granted earlier. This court case was heard on 5 December 2012 and the issues of the court had it that Hong Kong Exchange Investment was cleared to main its capital base for the acquisition. As part of the issues considered by the court was the remaining conditions to the transaction that had been set out in the Scheme Document. Earlier, the purchasing company, which was Hong Kong Exchange Investment, had fully satisfied condition 1(a) found in Part III of the scheme document that touches on the transaction that had taken place far back on 9 July 2012. 'In your opinion, what are the key corporate governance issues Essay

'In your opinion, what are the key corporate governance issues presented in this case and why' - Essay Example The basic role of corporate governance deals with the governance process of the corporation as well as how the management relates with several parties that are interested in the operations of the corporation, namely; shareholders, employees, directors, customers, creditors and suppliers. Every organization desires to have a good corporate governance that is not out to only minimize the possible risks of fraud and failure but also to improve the economic performance and its investment climate. Such governance relates public savings, investment, integrity and market confidence making corporate governance an important inclusion in order to achieve financial stability and economic growth for a long time. The corporation in question is the Royal Dutch/Shell Group which has remained the third largest production and oil production in the world. The size of the corporation makes corporate governance an important factor as it employs more than 119, 000 employees in more than 145 countries (Ev ans, 2004). For decades, Shell/Royal Dutch has been keen to maintain a good position among the top most global corporations. Its corporate governance has mostly been interested in the stability of the corporation in relation to its operations and name. ... ation Governance Issues The declaration by Royal Dutch/Shell Group that it was facing inflated oil reserves and that it intended to downgrade approximately four billion oil and gas reserves resulted to a furor among industry analysts as well as its investors who came out strongly blaming the opaque and complex governance structure that was twin-board for the issues facing the group. Analysts and experts claimed that this type of structure lacked proper accountability as well as resulted to financial manipulations (Hanney, 2004). The main corporation issue facing the Royal Dutch/Shell Group is thus its governance structure that entailed a twin board. This structure is believed to have had several loopholes in its governance thus the several issues associated with the group. The consequent of the above was a series of turmoil for the group. The public announcement of reserves reduction claimed that the company was fond of blaming human failings through its top executives and not come u p with critics on the weaknesses of the structure of Shell (Malin, 2004). The reaction of the group following the mounting pressure from its investors was to institute reviews and recognize and appreciated that it had complicated the organization in unusual ways but still insisted that it is the same structure that had taken the group to the greatest heights for more than one hundred years thus is justified by the legal regimes and differing tax. The issues facing Shell are not just a problem of the group but an issue facing the international gas and oil industry. Royal Dutch/Shell Group Governance Structure The main issue facing the governance of the group goes up to some of its senior executives who recognize that the corporation reserves were overstated. In addition to this realization,

Human Communication Theory and Research Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words

Human Communication Theory and Research - Essay Example Different scholars including philosophers have developed theories to help understand ways people communicate and assign meaning to what they say and hear. One of such theories is Referential Theory. The paper will discuss the theory by outlining its assumptions, strengths, and weaknesses. Â  Referential theory of meaning has its roots from the work of Aristotle, and he was the first person to expound on it in the 4th century BC (Hobbs, 2012). He had an assumption regarding words that people spoke and believed they had a meaning attached to them. According to his view, the meaning of a word consists in what it refers to (Hobbs, 2012). He gave several examples to prove his argument and as a justification that meanings are denoted by the words referred. For instance, the word "dog" is used to refer to all the dogs in the world and dogs are mammals that human beings rear at homes. Therefore, it is in order for one to hold that dog refers to all the animals who share the same similarities in the world. Similarly, knowing what dog refers to makes it easy for people to know the meaning of the word. Â  Besides, Aristotle argued by giving other additional examples towards justifying his statements. For instance, the meaning of a tree is the same one known, the meaning of a joke is the same joke we practice every day same to automobiles used in everyday life (Hobbs, 2012). Because of this, proponents of the theory believe that meaning of a term consists in its reference class. This implies that it falls into the category that the words refer. Â  The referential theory is cherished because of the identity it gives objects it refers to. The theory holds because of its ability to point to references class that is used in explaining the meaning of words used (UNC, 2015).

Importance of ‘True and Fair View of Financial Statements

Importance of ‘True and Fair View of Financial Statements Introduction This essay focuses on the definition of the ‘true and fair view’ and how to use in accounting practically. In my opinion, ‘true and fair view’ is essential in the real world of accounting because the company has to provide reliable and relevant information to demonstrate its actual financial situation in financial report. However, from December 2013, the ‘true and fair view’ is not defined in Corporations Act s. 295(4)(d) and other regulations or legislations. This is because it has been a controversial debate towards whether the exact nature of ‘true and fair view’. Therefore, the following essay will explain the importance of the ‘true and fair view’ in terms of the appropriate disclosure of material matters in financial statement and the frustration in terms of the definition as well. What is True and Fair? The ‘true and fair view’ concept is one of two competing but not mutually exclusive legal standards for financial reporting quality that have been subject to debate on their meaning, use and importance. The other is ‘present fairly in conformity with generally accepted accounting principles’ (GAAP). The mainly prescriptive literature suggests that each regime that requires compliance with ‘true and fair view’ tends to address and interpret the concept according to specific historical, social, cultural, political and economic roots and environments (Deegan Michael 2012). The nature of truth, whether absolute or relative, it is the existence of a reality, an unquestionable thing, or as an abstract concept, either dependent or independent of believers. The interpretation equated with the truth and fairness to the relevance together with adequate disclosure in financial report. In accounting concept, ‘True and fair view’ indicates that the financial statement must not contain material misstatement and actually reflect the financial performance and position on the company(Deegan Michael 2012). To be specific, ‘True’ means the financial statement accord with the reality and formal reporting framework such as conceptual framework and free from any unreal information which could mislead the users. ‘Fair’ means the information in financial statement do not include any personal prejudice or bias thus it could reflect the economic substance or transaction. The Importance of True and Fair in Accounting The Corporations Act requires the accountants to provide true and fair information so that the accounts of the company can convey a true and fair view explicitly. Under s. 297, it is required that the financial statements and notes should to give a true and fair value of the entity’s financial position in the financial year. Moreover, s. 308 requires auditors to give a true and fair view in the annual financial statements and comply with accounting standards. Beside to the Corporations Act, Chastney (1975) suggests that fairness means that, in order to achieve a true and fair view financial reports should present information both impartially and in a manner that a reader can understand clearly. The concepts of truth and fairness are of great significance to ensure the accounting information to be reliable. The information reflected in the financial repot includes the measurements of assets and liabilities, the calculation of profit and capital, as well as the actual quantities involved in business activities (Ryan 1988). The information disclosed in financial statements should be fair to shareholders, public and other related stakeholders. Thus, directors and auditors in a company have an obligation to comply with the ‘true and fair value’ in all accounting activities. For example, four particular information should be disclosed in the financial statement. These information are required to be true and fair to reflect the financial performance and position of the company. The four information needs are:capital maintenance, stewardship. Liquidity and net realizable value. From the perspective of true and fair, these four information are required as follows: Capital maintenance need to satisfy the needs of shareholders for disclosing the annual profit legally available for dividend, retained profit and the amount and form of paid-up capital. Stewardship need to satisfy the needs for disclosing the results achieved by directors from the use of funds and whether the investment are following the objective of the company (Power 2010). Liquidity are quired to serve as an indication to the solvency. The information should clarify the abilities of companies to met liabilities in short term, the amount of bank overdraft and the amount of any securities to secured company’s debts (Chastney 1975). Net realizable value disclosure are needed to make sure shareholders do not sell their shares which are parts of net realizable value but was available to the company. Under these interpretations, the measurement of periodic profit based on detail monetary model, which elaborate the demand and actual application of how fairness reflected in the financial statement (Gaffikin, Dagwell Wines 2004). Moreover, all the measurements should be internally consistent and comply with the applying of the accounting System. The value of the true and fair view also reflect the compliance of the transactions with relevant regulations, statutory provision and other accounting standard. For example, the accounting policies applied in the organization should be appropriate to a accompany’s business, and the acquirements and recommendations in accounting standards can be practical in the use of achieving company’s actual financial objectives (Aisbitt Nobes 2001). Specially, AASB 1001 requires the accounting policies should to ensure the substance of the underlying transactions or other events , satisfying the concepts of relevance and reliability (AASB). This demands the actual economic nature and effect of the events to be reported. At last, the truth and fairness also make contributions to the company’s decision making. This is because the relevance and reliability has b een ensured and the managers can predict the future perspective according to the useful information reported in the financial statement (Ijiri Jaedicke 2004). How to define True and Fair? However, True and fair concept is not yet defined by authority, also some way to define that in view of its relationship to the various components of a true and fair. (Lee, 1982) There is also no legal concept prescribe the notion of true and fair. Sometimes the application of ‘true and fair valve’ go far beyond of technical rules of accounting (Aisbitt Nobes 2001). For example, stemming from the meaning of ‘compliance with the facts’, ‘truth’ refers to ‘empirical correspondence’ in accounting terminology. But in practical accounting, the value of truth is not limited to its literal definition. It also expand to deductive validity in audit process. Further more, the application of fair also involved in the appropriate general accounting model for measurement of periodic profit and capital. That is to say, there is no fixed standard to rule what is exactly the meaning of ‘true and fair value’ in practical accounting. On the other hand, although true and fair view is really essential in accounting framework, however, in real life sometimes it is quite hard for the accountant to make absolute right decision in terms of following absolute truth and fairness. For example, in the process of determining the depreciation, several methods are available such as declining balance method, maximum amount method, multi-level method and the basic method (Ryan 1988). In most cases, several options are accessible and reasonable, but different methods could lead to different calculation answers, affecting the estimation of company’s financial performance. When the accountant put the formula into the reality, they have to take into account the company’s position and financial performance target, then making the optimal decision (Lee 1982). In this situation, the concept of ‘true and fair view’ do not have fixed rules and the accountant may use the professional judgment to make the final decision. Conclusion To conclude, true and fair value are of great concern in accounting, especially in financial statements. The idea that true and fair value measurement is part of professional identification in terms of the releasability and relevance of the information disclosed in the financial report. However, in most cases, the technical standard setting of true and fair value are not obvious and uniform, which address impediment to real practicability of the interpretations. This is because the notions of relevance and reliability cannot be defined independently of the whole accounting system and are always subject to changes (Power 2010). Computer Piracy in The Music Industry Essay -- mp3 file sharing music

Computer Piracy (The Music Industry) The music industry has had problems with computer piracy for many years now. There have been many programs devoted to giving out free music. Many of these programs are well know, but still very hard to stop. Napster, Kazaa, and the newest program, myTunes Redux are the most popular programs for music sharing. This essay will explain all about these main programs which allow free music to be shared all over the world. File-sharing became big right around the time the Napster file-sharing program came out. Napster is an online service which was invented by an 18-year-old college student that allows a user to see song files residing on the hard drives of other users, and to download copies of any of those songs. (DLC.org) Napster started off at a slow pace, becoming popular at colleges and then it just exploded. Everyone was using this program within a year of its creation. (DLC.org) However, it eventually got busted and the idea of free music was shutdown, or so the music industry thought. Napster continues to be around today, but with a legal persona. After Napster was told to stop there illegal program there were many other programs in the making. Programs even more advanced then Napster. The next program to come along which caused a big stir was a program known as Kazaa. Kazaa took file sharing to the next level by also allowing movie and picture files to be shared rather than just music files. The Kazaa protocol is the brainchild of the Scandinavians Niklas Zennstrà ¶m and Janus Friis and was introduced in March 2001 by their Dutch company Consumer Empowerment. (Wikipedia.org) Like the creators of Napster, Kazaa's owners have been taken to court by m... ...l and is the biggest file sharing program since Napster and Kazaa. There will most likely be a final resolution to this new program by next year. Basically, file sharing programs will always be around. They even are able to avoid law suits by explaining that it is the user who is breaking the law. The world of the music industry needs to understand that there is nothing they can do to stop it. All they can do is try to find ways to work around it. Besides, if someone really enjoys a band, they would go out and support them by buying their cd. In the end, file sharing is part of the world around us and will remain here for many years to come. Othello protagonist Essay

The protagonist of the play, Othello is a man trapped by his own weaknesses rather than a victim of circumstance. Even though the situations that Othello finds himself in are not ideal and contribute to his downfall, it is his own fatal flaws that end up destroying him. In act 3 scene 3 Iago starts to plant a seed of doubt in Othello’s mind about his wife Desdemona and her infidelity. Iago proceeds to ask Othello, â€Å"Did Michael Cassio, when you wooed my lady, know of you love? † This question immediately causes Othello to become suspicious. Iago then follows with a series of rhetorical questions that enrage Othello as well increase the doubt that is building up in his mind. By the end of this scene we see one of Othello’s weaknesses present itself, jealousy. This particular flaw becomes one of the major contributions to Othello’s downfall. By the end of the play jealousy has clouded his judgment and taken over his perspective on everything. At first Othello insists that he needs proof of the alleged affair but quickly changes his mind. â€Å"Must be to loathe her. O curse of marriage.Act 4 scene 1, Iago informs Othello that Desdemona and Cassio have slept together and he has seen that she has given Cassio the handkerchief Othello gave her when they first fell in love. All this news that Iago keeps telling him sends Othello off into a rant, â€Å"Is’t possible? – Confess? Handkerchief? O devil! †After this his falls into a trance. This is the moment when all Othello’s insecuriti es, fears and aversions as well as the obvious lack of judgment that a leader is assumed to have combine to create this kind of epileptic fit. In this scene stage directions are used to help the reader understand what is going on for a dramatic effect. Two of Othello’s flaws that cause this downfall are passion and gullibility. These feelings enabled Iago fill his head with lies that caused him to get so worked up that he lost control. In act 5 scene 1 Iago had convinced Othello that he would kill Cassio and that Othello had to kill Desdemona. Othello begins this scene with a soliloquy, reflecting and attempting to justify his decision to kill her. Othello refers to Desdemona as light. â€Å"Put out the light and then put out he light†. So sweet we ne’er so fatal. †Othello describes how she was so sweet but her actions caused so much pain. Before he kills her, Othello makes sure she has prayed or confessed so that she will go to heaven. â€Å"I will not kill thy unprepared spirit. †Othello’s blind faith in Iago is the flaw that leads all his other weaknesses to rise to the surface an d in the end the inevitable happens. Othello, once a great man, falls. Desdemona speak for one last time in the play. â€Å"A guiltless death I die. † This quote enforces the reality of what has just taken place. This innocent woman was a victim because of another man’s weakness. In this play it is clear what jealousy and misguided trust can do to a person. These weaknesses, along with others, are the reason for Othello’s downfall. Each flaw produced another weakness or doubt. The fact that Othello was manipulated to be part of Iago’s plan for revenge only accelerated the speed of his demise. The fatal mix of passion, jealousy, insecurity as well as how easily he could be manipulated caused Othello to be a man snared by his own weaknesses.

Brett In The Sun Also Rises English Literature Essay Essay Example

Brett In The Sun Also Rises English Literature Essay Essay Example Brett In The Sun Also Rises English Literature Essay Essay Brett In The Sun Also Rises English Literature Essay Essay this is a rare happening. While this sense of female laterality continues, it brings a more negative intension the farther into the novel it gets. In add-on, it is rapidly learned that Brett s figure one concern in her insatiate desire for sex. A relationship in her eyes is defined by the sum of and quality of sexual intercourse that she can acquire. While she is apparently capable of Craig2 loving person, as we see in chapter 4 and beyond, love is non of import plenty to predominate. Love you? I merely turn all to jelly when you touch me, ( Hemingway, p.34 ) is what she mentions to Jake during the first brush that we see in the novel. Her relationship with Jake is neer to the full understood and decidedly neer reaches its full potency due to her inability to perpetrate to anything of substance. Brett genuinely seems more interested in holding a good clip, which can be seen through her promiscuous actions and changeless partying. In add-on, she wanders through life by going and merely sweeping in and out of people s lives. She genuinely shows her shallow nature through these actions. Another illustration of when we can see more of her superficiality appears in chapter 5 when we foremost become cognizant of the fact that she is really engaged. Bing foremost introduced to her by cognizing her promiscuousness and so subsequently larning she is engaged, makes her look even more of a negative character. Besides being shallow, it can besides be said that she is one of the most selfish characters in the full book. She leads a really unsettling life and comes through others lives like a twister. She does what she wants and neer considers the effects that her actions have on others. We can truly see this through her actions with Jake. She is invariably inquiring for reassurance of his love for her, yet has non intentions on following through with a relationship. Brett has a wont of doing programs with Jake and so standing him up. Jake inquiries her, You do nt retrieve anything about a day of the month with me at the Crillon? In which Brett answers, No. Did we have one? I must hold been blind ( Hemingway, p.61 ) . She continually leads him on, and while he knows there truly is nt a opportunity that anything will come of their feelings for each other, it is like throwing salt on his lesions at every reference of her love for him. In add-on to moving Craig 3 egotistically towards Jake, which is the most terrible, she besides is handling her fiance Mike badly egotistically. She reasonably openly has personal businesss and expects him to stand at that place and delay for her. Between the combination of her promiscuousness and selfishness, we can acquire a complete image of Brett as a truly inconsiderate individual. When we look at all these factors, and while I do hold a much more negative position of Lady Brett than positive, I ca nt assist but inquire if this behaviour is a consequence of being confused and afraid. Someone feeling unsure about the way her life is traveling, may move in ways that they think will hold no foreseeable effects in the immediate hereafter. What she is non looking at is the bigger image. She is a unrecorded daily sort of miss, and looking towards her hereafter does nt look to be a inquiry in her head. It is mentioned in the book that this group has all experienced the adversities of WWI in some manner or another. The catastrophe has truly hit them all and they are fighting to happen significance in their lives post-war. Many of them neer wanted the war to get down with, and they are now covering with the hurts of life after war. We would likely hold gone on and discussed the war and agreed that it was in world a catastrophe for civilisation, and possibly would hold been better avoided ( Hemingway, p. 24-25 ) . In add-on to covering with the war, it is learned through a conversation between Jake and Cohn that Brett had married shortly after her true love died. When did she get married Ashley? During the war. Her ain true love had merely kicked off with dysentery ( Hemingway, p.46 ) . The fact that Brett suffered through the loss of her true love could be the root of all of her recent negative actions. She could hold been so overwrought from the loss of her love, that she now found it difficult to let herself to truly autumn for another adult male, and if she seems to hold Craig 4 feelings, like she does with Jake, she pushes them aside. All of her jokes could really be a defence mechanism and her existent ground for being selfish roots from fright. Leting herself to open up to another individual would open her up for the possibility of grief and hurt. Overall, the war left her alone and without any way as to where her life was traveling. She was left to fundamentally get down her life over. Afraid and unsure, she chose to populate a life filled with sex and intoxicant. Another cause of her inability to perpetrate to a adult male could be due to her dishevelled and corrupt yesteryear matrimony with Lord Ashley. He ever made Brett kip on the floor. Finally, when he got truly bad, he used to state her he d kill her ( Hemingway, p.207 ) . This unstable and violent relationship most likely farther damaged any staying religion she may hold had in relationships. The feeling I got from reading the novel was that the lone ground she was in an battle was because they had a relationship of convenience and were comfy plenty in their dysfunctional relationship. An illustration of eventually seeing an ounce of morality in Brett is exposed during the last chapter when she leaves Romero. At first, Brett seemed to hold a connexion with him, and she most likely still did upon go forthing him, but she claimed that he was immature and she did nt desire to ache him. She knew she would nt be able to stay faithful. While this ab initio seemed to be an admirable move, this determination could hold besides easy been driven by selfishness or her fright of settling down and/or conforming. She knew Romero loved her, but wanted her to be something that she could nt perchance be. He wanted to do it certain I could neer travel off from him. After I d acquire more womanly, of class ( Hemingway, p. 246 ) . Romero was seeking to turn an independent adult female into a dependent homemaker, a lifestyle Brett could nt Craig 5 conform to. Given all of the information the novel exposes to us about Brett, more than one reading can be made about her character. She could be a nice miss deep down, with fright of committedness lurking in her caput. While I do believe that there is decidedly some truth to this, I still think that Brett has let her past fortunes dictate her life in a negative manner, instead than turning from her hurting and experience. I feel that Brett is utilizing her hurting as an alibi to act in such a harmful manner. She allowed herself to go an highly selfish, inconsiderate adult female, who is willing to ache anyone in her manner in order to acquire what she wants sexually. The last quotation mark being used to be analyzed is one that stood out to me instantly. In the last paragraph she states, Oh Jake, we could hold had such a blasted good clip together ( Hemingway, p. 251 ) . This line proves that her egoism has ironically non merely caused other hurting, specifically Jake, but besides herself. She is her ain worst enemy and her current life style is destroying her opportunities of genuinely being happy once more.

Usually, it is given at the beginning of an academic term bearing in mind that you will do it in parts. It will be convenient to have a personal calendar on Google with the deadlines set before the due dates of a submission of this or that part of a term paper. The added outline can look quite messy at first glance, but when it works for your benefit – nothing essential is missed out. What Are the Effective Writing Strategies for a Term Paper? When all the prewriting steps are taken, you’re ready to start the writing process itself. Right? You’ve already known the standard format of a term paper. That’s why you need to deal with a separate part of it. Get to the point immediately in the introduction. It is a common mistake of many students when they intend to speak in generalities on a topic, maybe, in order to meet a page or word count or because they don’t have anything to say meaningfully. With your good introduction for a term paper, you should give a proper orientation to the readers and make them want to read the rest of the paper. Develop the main body of a term paper. After your reader is introduced to a research topic, he/she knows what you are going to say, don’t hesitate to say it in a proper way. Basically, you should divide this part into sections, then subsections, points and subpoints. Every unit should be logical and correspond to a heading. If you need to review the literature concerning the current state of research, do it in an appropriate section under the title ‘Literature Review’. Remember that all information sources you refer to needs a reference according to a formatting style (APA, MLA, Chicago or Harvard). Prioritize the work on the main body of your term paper accordingly: interpret the main literary sources, state methods for your research, turn to a necessary research approach. Arrive at the logical conclusions. It isn’t time to relax just because you are at the finish of writing this ‘excellent’ term paper. Everything has an end – even the longest day must have an end. It would be perfect that your term paper will have a fitting end to a scientific paper – key original findings and recommendations for further research. The concluded chapter should give the readers the feeling that it was worthwhile to read your paper. Besides, it should stimulate their further thinking, either critical or analytical one. Compile a reference/bibliography page. Any research paper emerges from nowhere – there are some assumptions of analysis, the backgrounds of the topic and so on. Moreover, it would be much more difficult to work on a topic on your won with a clean sheet of paper in hands. For that reason, you can refer to someone’s works in the field you are studying. And it won’t mean that you steal someone’s ideas. But remember there is no sign of plagiarism only if you refer to the sources correctly. All references cited in your term paper must be listed on a bibliography page. As a rule, this page or several pages depending on the number of the sources used are the last ones of your term paper. Further on, only appendixes (maps, statistics, charts, etc.) can be placed. Edit a term paper based on the style requirements. Once again, return to the first step of your term paper writing. What should you do? Carefully look through an assignment. Well, what style are you required to use in your term paper? APA, MLA, Harvard or Chicago? Look again at your text. Is it written accordingly the style peculiarities? Now, it is time to make final touches to your term paper writing. Reread it again and again while the submission date doesn’t come. Alternatively, let other competent or more experienced people proofread and edit your paper. This way you’ll save your time and nerves. Writing a term paper is always relevant to any course whatever you choose to study. But if you’ve decided to achieve considerable results in Computer Science, start writing an A+ term paper right now. Broaden your expertise quickly with our help and the computer science term paper tips above.

De Beers - Blood Diamonds Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

De Beers - Blood Diamonds - Essay Example After creation of social legislation in 1970s, employees, environment, and consumers are recognised as legitimate stakeholders of companies and every decision of the company must incorporate them. For instance, a firm involved in building a school for its workers children will be undertaking its social responsibility. In another case, by innovating in new ways of manufacturing its products that are friendlier to the environment, a company will also be undertaking its social responsibility as it maximises its profits. This paper discusses De beer-Black Diamonds company’s ways of undertaking its social responsibilities. Carroll Model Early theologians tried to define company social responsibility. For instance, J.M Clark emphasized the importance of transparency in business dealings and emphasized that men must take responsibility of their own actions whether the law recognised it or not (CSR Quest, 2012, P.1). In 1960, Keith Davis suggested that, â€Å"social responsibility re fers to businesses decisions and actions taken for reasons at least partially beyond the firm’s direct economic or technical interest† (CBE, 1991, P.1). Carroll Model is similar to the suggestions of these two theologians. He conceived CSR as divided into four obligatory parts namely, economic, legal, ethical, and discretionary. The major responsibility that shareholders vests on the company managers is to increase the economic value of their assets. Therefore, businesses must work hard to earn profits to keep the company going. In all its undertakings, the company must do so in accordance to the laws of the land. The third responsibility is for corporate companies to do what is right, just, fair, and avoid harm to employees and the neighbourhoods. Lastly, a corporate company is expected to contribute its resources towards improving the life of the surrounding community (Slide share, 2009, P.1). For instance, at the place of mining, there is no good Medicare for the min ers. A mining company may build a hospital or a community clinic where its workers can access medical services. Background Information of the Company De Beers is an international company that operates mines in South Africa, Tanzania, Botswana, Canada, and Namibia. It dominates the Diamond world in open-pit mining, underground, large-scale alluvial and deep-sea mining. It has existed for more than 100 years now and has spent lots of money to advertise the diamond products it produces as a symbol of love, purity, and beauty. De Beers acquired its monopolistic powers before the twentieth century via buying individual diamond dealers and spoiled the market for those who could not join in. However, this monopoly ended in 2000 after Russian entry in the market. De Beers Company employs about 20,000 employees around the world. It sells the rough diamonds through Diamond Trading Company and $5.9bn sales were recorded in 2007. The company sells its finished jewels through a joint venture wit h French Luxury Goods Products Today the company is acquiring a new name â€Å"Blood diamonds† or â€Å"conflict diamonds† since the African nation that hold most of its mining grounds want to reclaim their lands. There are so many disputes and blood shed over the mining grounds and it is believed that the weapon used in these fights comes from the west. According to Durham, â€Å"

Civil Liberties-Criminal Procedures Discussion Board Coursework

Civil Liberties-Criminal Procedures Discussion Board - Coursework Example Collection of data regarding citizens without their consent is a direct insult to their dignity as they are disrespected and treated as people who should not have a right to privacy in the first place. There are records that clearly show that NSA gave the wrong information regarding their surveillance. They lied even under an oath that they were not accessing any information (Paul). This was just disrespect to human decency while invading their privacy. The involvement of the president who should safeguard the rights of the citizens offer leaves little to be desired as he reminds everybody of tyranny that all fought. He justifies the violation of privacy in broad daylight. Scapegoating around terror attacks and other security measures while NSA first lied that there was no surveillance in the first place is a clear indication of a system that doesn’t not feel the need to clear the air for its citizens but rather opt to violate their rights to privacy because there is nothing much they can do. Citizens now have trust issues with the government (Dickson). Dickson, Caitlin. NSA Surveillance Program Explained: Here’s Why We’re Freaking Out. 6th July 2013. 5th April 2015. . Paul, Rand. Analyzing Religions Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Analyzing Religions - Research Paper Example Like European, North American, South American and Australian countries represent majority population who are firm believers of Christianity. Similarly Middle East, South East Asia and some part of Africa represent majority of Muslim population. The people of Asia Pacific countries and some South Asian countries are Buddhism majority countries (DK Publishing 2004). There are more Christian believers (more than 2 billion) in the world than Muslim believers (more than 1.3 billion). The initial leaders of Christians were Jesus Christ himself and his early believers Peter and Paul (Lindberg 2009). Initial leaders of Muslim era include the Prophet Muhammad and his companions. The four companions of Prophet Muhammad are famous among the majority of the Muslims: Abu Bakr, Umar, Usman and Ali. These four companions of the Prophet Muhammad ruled over the Muslim states one after another respectively (Maps.com 1999). There are a lot of things common in Muslims and Christians. First of all, they are considered as Abrahamic religions. Both religions hail from Prophet Abraham. Secondly, Catholic and Muslim believe in the same GOD. The basic religious concepts of both religions are similar. For example, the concept of Prophets, Angels, Paradise, Hell, life after death and Fate are same between the Catholic and Muslim. Besides all these common viewpoints mentioned in above paragraph, there are also several conflicting beliefs between Muslims and Christians. The concept of GOD among the Christians is different than Muslims belief of GOD. The Christians believe in Trinity which defines God as three divine persons (or hypostases): the Father, the Son (Jesus Christ) and the Holy Spirit whereas Muslims strongly believe that the GOD is one and only. Some rituals and practices between the Christians and Muslims are of the similar nature and some rituals and practices are of the different nature. Like
